Let’s talk about the little blue bird in the room. Social media. You know, that thing we all thought would be a walk in the park, like teaching your grandma to use emojis, or our fave “just post something cute and watch the clients roll in.”. Except now it feels more like teaching your nan to use Google Ads while she asks where the “on” button is.

Soooooo…..WTF is social media marketing? It’s not just cat videos, trending audios, or “how to make 10k in your sleep” reels. (Though we are still totally here for the cat videos thanks.) Social media marketing is how people find you, trust you, and decide whether you’re worth their attention.

It’s the part of your business that says:

“Hey, we’re real. We get you. And we’ve got something that might make your day easier.”

That’s it. No jazz hands required.

Why even bother?

Because invisibility is expensive. People can’t buy from you if they don’t know you exist and the algorithm doesn’t owe you free exposure just because you have a logo.

Here’s what you get when you use social media with intention.

Brand Awareness (aka getting seen by the right people)

You don’t need to be famous. You just need to be findable. Show up consistently, talk like a human, and make it stupidly easy for people to understand what you do and who it’s for. You don’t want to be like Alexander Hamilton and hear, “Yo, who the F is this?”

Brand personality tip: If you don’t define it, your audience will. Decide what energy you want your business to give off  and make that the throughline of your content.

The Human Element

People buy from people, not perfectly polished logos. (We WILL die on this hill. Even curated Insta feeds are obsolete hey.) Social is your chance to show the heartbeat behind the business, your quirks, your perspective, your “we’ve been there” moments. It’s where trust starts before the invoice ever arrives.

our core message to anyone wanting to sell a product or a service: people buy from people.

Traffic (the good kind)

Social media isn’t just for vibes. It’s your fastest route to new eyes and warm leads, if you are on the right platform.
When it’s done right, it fuels your website traffic, builds your email list, and keeps your name top-of-mind for when people are ready. When it’s done wrong? It just eats your lunch break.

Leads and Relationships

Good content doesn’t always sell instantly. The more your audience sees themselves in your content, the closer they move toward conversion. Social is how you plant seeds, not how you harvest the entire crop overnight. And no, you aren’t going to go viral. That’s just facts.

The perks of playing the social game

Let’s skip the “free exposure” nonsense. Once upon a time it was almost that easy. Nowadays, when even Linkedin is only putting your posts in in front of less than 2% of your own followers, you have to work smart for that bread and not just post a mountain worth. Unless you like shouting into a void.

  • Built-in feedback loop: It’s like a focus group, minus the bad biscuits. You’ll know what your people care about within minutes.

  • Market insight on tap: You get to see the real conversations your customers are having like what’s trending, what’s tanking, and what they wish someone would finally fix.

  • Inbound growth: Think of social as the mate who keeps bringing new people to your business barbecue.

  • Community, not vanity: When it’s done right, your comments become more valuable than your follower count.

honk if you think I'm bad at driving or you love cats

Okay, but isn’t this all… exhausting?

You know it is. But it’s less exhausting when you treat social like a system, not a guessing game.

You don’t have to post every day. You don’t have to go viral. You just have to show up with purpose, consistency, and something worth saying. Though that last bit is easier said than done.
